The Right Way to Start the Day

Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day? Heck Yeah! Research shows that people who eat breakfast tend to consume fewer calories throughout the day than those who skip out.

day4I know that I am not a breakfast chick. Nope, just feed the line of coffee intravenously and I am good to go. But, I wake up at 5:30 am. Somewhere around 10:00, you don’t want to be too close. Starvation and cannibalism might be forefront in my mind. So, how do I stay human?

Breakfast. The meal for champions and for nonresolution challenge takers! If like me, food so early is a turn off, enter the incredible protein bar. With your AM Beans, it takes the edge off until you can grab a real breakfast.

Let’s take a second to discuss the merit of breakfast.

Bonus points:

  • A revved up metabolism: early starters burn the maximum number of calories. All the better to fuel your crazy activities, from carpool to cartwheels and more!
  • Fewer total calories consumed during the day (kind of self-explanatory.)
  • An increased Leptin output. What is this leptin? It’s a happy little hormone that helps suppress appetite.

Now remember, what you eat is important too. So easy shmeazy resolution here…

Challenge # 4:

Do not just go popping any old thing in your mouth for breakfast. Opt for the healthy complex carbs, proteins and good omega fats. That means no Eggo’s or Captain Crunch. Peanut or almond butter on whole wheat or rye toast with a banana, maybe some Greek yogurt with chia seed and fruit, steel cut Irish oatmeal with agave and blueberries…or my personal fave, avocado mashed with a hard-boiled egg and a dribble of lime juice on a nice slice of tomato or dark multi-grain toast. I know, it’s a phase. But a yummy one!
